How long does it take to learn Spanish? Is it 3 months realistic?

You just started out to learn Spanish, and you’ve been thinking, Hey, how long does it actually take to learn Spanish? Let me tell you that there is an answer to this, but not the one you’ve been thinking.

You must first ask yourself this question: What your goals are? And then we can give you an answer. So, let’s talk about this first.

What are your goals? What are they actually? You probably have different goals depending on your situation. For example, you may want to learn Spanish for traveling, as a hobby, or because you plan to live in a new country. These three goals are totally different, so the time it takes depends on your purpose for learning Spanish.

For example, if you are a tourist and you want to learn Spanish just for casual trips, you don’t really need to learn Spanish for living. This is completely different from a person who wants to learn Spanish because they are going to live in a new country. So, the time it requires for you is completely different.

Now, let’s start with a tourist. If you are a tourist, you just need Spanish to survive—to be able to take a taxi, go around the city, ask for food, or find a restaurant. This requires very specific vocabulary, and you can cover all of it in just three to six months, no more than that. I would even say that in three or four months, you can learn all of this super basic stuff that will allow you to survive in a Spanish-speaking country with just very basic Spanish.

But then, if you are, for example, someone who wants to live in a new city or country and you need Spanish for the next five or ten years, that is a completely different purpose. Your goal must be totally different, and therefore, the time required for this is absolutely different.

On the other hand, if you are someone about to move to a new country, you need to learn Spanish as fast as possible. You need to learn a high level of Spanish that allows you to survive, make friends, and manage yourself in all situations because you need this for daily life. The time required in this situation is completely different from the time required for just casual trips.

In this case, to achieve a high level of Spanish that allows you to speak fluently, feel confident, and handle all your paperwork and necessary documents in a new country, you will need between one and six years. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but this is a completely different process. You have to be patient and set realistic goals because if you want to live in a new country, you will have to learn the language at the highest level possible.

So, as you can see, the time it takes to learn Spanish is completely different depending on your goals.

But let me tell you something else—Spanish may seem like a very complex language, but in just one year, if you have the willingness and the commitment, you can learn the most advanced aspects of Spanish and master all the foundations of the language.

In just one year, you can achieve this. You just need to dedicate time, work as hard as possible, and you will do it. In just one year, you can move to another country, live there, and survive using your Spanish.

Believe me when I say this because I have helped many people learn Spanish in just 4 months to one year, and they all achieved it in this time frame. So yes, you can do it too!
