By Nicolás – Spanish Teacher & Founder of the Spanish Mindset Program
Hey, amigos! In today’s post, I’m going to tell you exactly how you can learn Spanish in just 4 months to travel to Argentina — yes, it’s possible. I’ll show you the method I’ve used with real students, and why you don’t need years to speak the Spanish you actually need to survive and enjoy your trip.
👋 Who Am I, and Why Can I Tell You This?
I’m Nicolas G. Miño, Spanish teacher, owner of the YouTube Channel “Spanish with Nico”, the founder of Spanish Mindset Academy – Learn Argentinian Spanish and the author of Mini Stories to Learn Spanish for Beginners, available on Amazon. Also, I have a podcast called Argento Podcast, where I teach real Argentinian Spanish and slang.
In my YouTube Channel “Spanish with Nico”, with +700 subscribers, I teach Spanish language and our dialect -Argentinian Spanish- and I explain everything about Argentinian history and culture.
Over the past few years, I’ve helped dozens of travelers reach the “traveler level” of Spanish — the level that lets you survive, communicate, and enjoy your time in Argentina without needing English.
🎯 What Is the Traveler Level?
The “traveler level” is a specific Spanish level focused on real-life situations:
- Ordering food
- Asking for directions
- Talking to locals
- Booking hotels and taxis
- Making friends
- Surviving daily life in Argentina
It’s not academic. It’s not about writing essays or reading Cervantes.
It’s about real communication — in markets, cafés, bus stations, and with new friends.
✅ Can You Actually Reach This Level in 4 Months?
Yes — and here’s how.
Many students think they need years to learn a language, but that’s only true if you’re trying to sound like a native. To reach the “traveler level,” you only need:
- A clear method
- Consistent practice
- 3 to 4 hours per week
- The right focus (not random grammar rules)
Let me explain my method step by step:
📘 The Method (Step by Step)
1. Set a Simple Weekly Routine
You’ll only need 3 to 4 hours per week.
Choose 3–4 specific days, always at the same time, and stay consistent.
Example:
- Monday & Tuesday: Vocabulary + Grammar
- Thursday & Friday: Speaking + Listening
2. Focus on Understanding First
That means:
- Vocabulary
- Basic Grammar
- Argentinian Slang
🔤 Vocabulary
Use short, simple content (especially mini stories or dialogues).
I recommend my book: Learn Spanish with Mini Stories. It’s built for beginners and includes real-life travel situations.
⚙️ Grammar
Start with the basics: present tense, common verbs, basic sentence structure.
You don’t need to know everything — just the essentials for communication.
If grammar feels confusing, don’t worry. You don’t need to study alone — I’ll explain how I can help below.
🇦🇷 Argentinian Slang
Yes, it’s necessary!
In Argentina, people don’t say trabajo (to work) — they say laburo.
They don’t say autobús — they say bondi or colectivo.
If you don’t learn Argentinian slang, people might not understand you — even if your grammar is perfect.
That’s why I recommend listening to the Argento Podcast or watching content specifically made with Argentine slang, because 90% of the time, we use slang in all contexts.
3. Practice Speaking & Listening
This is the most important part — and the hardest to do alone.
Listening to podcasts is great, but you also need to speak with real people. The only way to get good at speaking… is by speaking.
But if you live outside of Argentina, it’s tough to find native speakers — especially if you’re a beginner.
So how do you do it?
⚠️ The Problem With Self-Study
Even with the best plan, most people don’t improve their speaking when they study alone. Here’s why:
- No real opportunities to practice
- No feedback
- You get stuck on grammar questions
- You waste time finding materials
- You feel frustrated and lose motivation
And worst of all?
People notice you don’t speak Spanish, and they switch to English — and you lose the chance to practice.
That’s why I created something different.
