The 4 Most Common Problems to Learn Argentinian Spanish & How to Fix Them

the 4 most common problems to learn argentinian spanish

After spending several years teaching people who had come to Argentina to travel, live or invest, I noticed that they all encountered the same problems when trying to learn Spanish. These issues were not related to intelligence or talent; there were only four different problems.

So today, I want to help you avoid those mistakes and finally learn Argentinian Spanish the right way.

🧭 Problem #1: No Clear Goal

The first problem everyone had was this: they didn’t have a clear goal for their Spanish.

They would say, “I want to speak Spanish,” but they didn’t know why, how much, or for what purpose. So let’s define that now.

Are you a casual traveler?

Then your goal is to reach the Traveler Level. That’s the minimum Spanish needed to:

  • Travel across Argentina’s 24 provinces,
  • Ask for directions,
  • Handle hotel check-ins,
  • Order food,
  • Communicate casually with locals.

It normally takes 4 to 5 months of consistent work (3–5 hours a week) to reach this level.

Are you in a rush?

If you’re flying to Argentina next month, you need the Urgent Traveler Level. In this case, you’ll study intensively for 1 month, focusing only on the essentials.

Do you want to live, work or start a business in Argentina?

Then your goal is to reach the Living Level. This level allows you to:

  • Communicate daily,
  • Deal with bureaucracy,
  • Build relationships,
  • Possibly launch a business.

This usually takes 8 months to 1 year, depending on how intensively you study.

Tip: Once you know your goal, your learning becomes 10x more effective.

🇦🇷 Problem #2: Not Knowing Argentinian Slang (and Why It Matters)

You won’t hear “autobús” in Argentina. We say colectivo or bondi.

We don’t say “trabajo”. We say laburo.

If you speak textbook Spanish here, people might still understand you — but you’ll feel left out. Worse: some neutral Spanish words from other countries can be insults in Argentina.

So how can you learn Argentinian slang?

  • ✅ Listen to my podcast, Argento Podcast — designed for travelers who want to learn real-life Spanish and slang.
  • ✅ Follow Argentinian social media accounts (X, Instagram, YouTube).
  • ✅ Watch local shows and movies — but beware, most are fast and not beginner-friendly.

The easiest way? Learn with someone who knows the slang and can explain it to you step by step.

🔁 Problem #3: No Routine

You need a routine to make progress. Learning Spanish once a week or randomly doesn’t work.

A good routine means:

  • Working the same days each week (e.g. Mon-Wed-Fri),
  • Using the same method, and
  • Staying focused on your level and your goal.

📚 Problem #4: No Method (or the Wrong One)

This is the biggest mistake of all.

People try apps, random YouTube videos, or advanced podcasts… and feel frustrated when they don’t improve.

Here’s the truth: Your results depend 100% on your method.

My favorite method? Mini Stories.

Mini stories are short texts with simple vocabulary and grammar, designed for repetition. You read the same story 10, 20, 50 times until you understand it perfectly. Then you move on to the next.

Why do I recommend it?

  • It’s low stress, easy to follow.
  • You learn in context, not just memorizing.
  • It works with slang, grammar, and vocabulary together.

This method works for any language — but I use it specifically for Spanish (and I wrote a book about it too!).

🗣 Bonus Problem: You’re Not Speaking Enough

Even if your vocabulary is growing, if you’re not speaking, you’re not learning to communicate.

The solution: you need a safe space to practice real conversations — slowly, clearly, and with someone who understands your level.

This can be:

  • A tutor,
  • A Spanish-speaking friend,
  • Or a structured program like mine.

💡 Final Tip: Start With the Right Support

Most learners fail not because they’re lazy or too old — but because they try to do it alone.

If you want a clear path, expert guidance, and fast results, I created the Spanish Mindset Program. It’s designed specifically for:

  • Casual travelers (Traveler Level),
  • Urgent travelers (1-month crash course),
  • Long-term residents or entrepreneurs (Living Level).

With just 4 hours per week for 4 months, you can transform your Spanish and your experience in Argentina.
